March 20, 1933 ~ May 13, 2017 (age 84)

Allen Reid Messick, 84, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at his residence.  He was born in Iredell County on March 20, 1933 to the late Reid and Johnsie Wiggins Messick.

Mr. Messick attended Iredell County Schools and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was retired from Scioto, Inc. after 35 years of service.  He was married to Roberta Messick, who preceded him in death and later married Barbara James Messick, who survives.

Allen was a loving husband, father, the “world’s greatest grandfather”, and friend.   He always had a smile on his face.  The time he cherished the most was seeing and talking with his grandchildren.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Allen had a creative nature.  He enjoyed the time he spent in his shop working with his hands.  His worked was evident by the home that he built that was shared with his wife and children.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Roberta Messick; a brother, Richard Messick, and a sister, Mary Ellen Reavis

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara; a son, Sonny Messick (Karen); a daughter, Stephanie Messick; three step-children, Debbie Williams (Tommy), John Mitchell, and Andy Mitchell (Diana); seven grandchildren, Tyler and Shelley Messick, Kelsey and Kyle Williams, Wesley, Ashton, and Andrew Mitchell; and three great grandchildren, Sophie, Madeline, and Davis Williams.  He is further survived by a brother, Bobby Messick (Rose) and three sisters, Betty Baity (Bill), Shirley Bowle (David), and Cookie Messick.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Corbell and Rev. Jerry Gwaltney officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.  Active pallbearers will be Keith and Kent Messick, Tim and Terry Harris, Mark Carter, and Darrell Watt.
