Amiel Sylvester Rickert, Jr., born on March 12, 1935, in Iredell County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his residence on August 21, 2026, following a period of declining health. He was 91 years old.

Throughout his life, Amiel was known as a quiet man who expressed his love through dedication and steadfast support to his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by a daughter, Majell Eller (Steven), a son, Donald McClelland, four grandchildren, Zalima Rickert, Nikole Vestal, Tanishia Gilbert, Elizabeth Gilbert Osei (Isaac), six great-grandchildren, Cahmad Gillus, Jeremiah Dalton, Jaiden Gilbert, Yahseim Wyche, Taliyah Barber, Ka'ylee Williams, and a host of nieces and nephews. who now carry forward his memory and the values he embodied. 

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Lizzie Harris Rickert, his father. Amiel Sylvester Rickert, Sr.,  mother, Mary Violet Jones Rickert, a daughter, Zelinda Rickert Powell, and two sisters, Marguerite Rickert Duren-Moore and Rose Marie Rickert.

Amiel’s strong work ethic was evident in his professional life. He retired from City Hall of the City of Hackensack, New Jersey, after serving many years as a senior maintenance technician. His colleagues knew him as a hard worker, and his family remembers him as a wonderful provider who always placed their needs first.

He found great enjoyment in life’s simpler pleasures, especially his fondness for westerns and cowboy movies and shows. These shared moments spoke to his appreciation for tradition and the enduring values often portrayed in the stories he loved.

Amiel was of the Presbyterian faith and gave his life to Christ. His faith was a source of comfort and strength throughout his journey, offering guidance and sustenance through life’s trials and joys alike.

A memorial service to honor and remember Amiel Sylvester Rickert, Jr. will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel, located at 135 E. Front St., Statesville, NC 28677. Pastor Timothy Bates of Calvary Presbyterian Church will officiate. Friends and family are invited to gather and pay tribute to a life marked by dedication, quiet strength, and enduring love.

Although Amiel may be gone from our sight, his legacy of hard work, faith, and unwavering devotion to loved ones lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
