Barbara Jean Hobbs Hartness, a beloved wife, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on November 24, 1939, in Iredell County, North Carolina, she brought warmth and kindness to all who knew her.
Barbara dedicated her professional life to her role as a machine operator at Clark Equipment, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Her colleagues remember her as a committed and reliable worker, always ready with a smile.
A woman of many talents, Barbara found joy in sewing, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her creativity and attention to detail. Her handiwork was cherished by family and friends alike, serving as a testament to her love and generosity.
Barbara was a devoted member of Temple Baptist Church, where she nurtured her faith and formed lasting friendships. Her gentle spirit and steadfast belief were an inspiration to those around her.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Robert Hartness, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage. She is also survived by her brothers, Darrell Hobbs and Grier Hobbs, and her brother-in-law, James Hartness. Her sisters-in-law, Linda Troutman, Ann Toliver, and Charley Ruth Massey, also mourn her passing.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM on Wednesday, August 19, at Nicholson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home at 11 AM, officiated by Pastor James Childress. Interment to follow at Iredell Memorial Garden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, honoring Barbara's caring spirit and lifelong dedication to helping others.
Barbara's gentle nature and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but her memory will remain a guiding light in the lives of all who knew her.
