Barbara (Bobbi) Sherrill, age 71 of Statesville, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice House. Bobbi was born on December 11, 1939 to the late James Leonard Sherrill and Rosalie Barkley McCreary who survives. After Bobbi graduated from Statesville high school, she moved to Charlotte where she was employed by Eastern Air Lines as a V.I.P. reservationist. After Eastern Air Lines ceased operations, she returned to school and received her Insurance licensed and worked for Prudential Investments, in Charlotte until her retirement. Ms. Sherrill loved Beach music and Shagging. She was also a Michael Jordan fan whom she had met and had her picture taken with him, but she was a bigger Tar Hill fan. Bobbi was a very giving person who gave not only of her time but monetarily as well. Bobbi is survived by her Mother, Rosalie B. McCreary, one sister, Peggy Alexander and Husband J. Fred of Sanford, two brothers, Wayne Sherrill and Luther McCreary Jr. both of Statesville. Her special friend and companion for over 16 years, Johnny L. Smith of the home. She is also survived my numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her step-father Luther McCreary Sr., one brother Charles A. (Bill) Sherrill and one sister, Cindy McCreary. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 2:00pm in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Yarbrough officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to either the Gordon Hospice house 2347 Simonton road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the American Lung Association, 514 Daniels Street, Suite 109, Raleigh, NC 37605.
