Brenda Joyce Matheson

Brenda Joyce Matheson, 76, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2026.

Brenda was born on October 27, 1949 in Danville, Virginia to the late Herman Layne and Ella Mae Wallace Layne. Brenda was a woman who found joy in the simple things in life. She loved spending time fishing, enjoying the quiet peace of the water and the outdoors. Animals held a special place in her heart, and she was especially devoted to her beloved dog, who was her constant companion.

Brenda was known by family and friends as an all-around good person—kind, caring, and always willing to help someone in need. Her warm spirit, love for animals, and appreciation for nature will be remembered by all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the gentle, loving person she was.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents. Herman Layne and Ella Mae Wallace Layne.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kimberly Matheson and Tina Keller (Tim), grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson and Darrian Johnson (Jeffrey Waugh) ; great grandchildren, Freya Waugh and Fenris Waugh; brothers, David Layne and Cecil Layne.
