Listen to Obituary

Brian Edward Greenway, 56, of Hickory, affectionately known as "Boog," passed away on September 28, 2025, at Frye Regional Medical Center, following a period of declining health. Born on October 9, 1968, in Harrison County, Mississippi, to Helen Kearns Greenway and the late Richard D. Greenway. Boog touched the lives of many with his kind spirit and vibrant personality.

Boog was employed by H.T. Hackney where he found great support and kindness during his illness. He was treated like family, and they were extremely generous to him. His joy in his work was evident, as he often assured his colleagues that he would be back at work "on Wednesday," even while hospitalized. He had previously worked for Morissette Paper for 20 years.

A proud high school graduate, Boog distinguished himself further by his military service in the United States Air Force. His love for sports extended beyond mere fandom; he was a wonderful coach, instilling values of loyalty and teamwork in those he mentored. His passion for the Minnesota Vikings was matched only by his enthusiasm for real-life crime television shows, which he watched on his cherished big screen TV. He loved his big screen tv, the bigger, the better! Having his remote control in his hand made him feel like he was in charge. Boog had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around. He was the epitome of being braggadocious! He prided himself on knowing everything about everything! If you didn’t believe it, all you had to do was ask him and he would tell you!

Going to the beach and riding his girls on the John Deere lawn mower brought him much joy.

Boog's love for his family was paramount in his life. He was the loving husband of almost eight years to Danita Phillips Greenway, who said one of the first things she noticed about him was his beautiful blue eyes. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Greenway, two sons, Brian Michael Greenway (Kaitlyn) and Nate Townsend (Katrina), as well as three daughters, Emily M. Greenway, Abigail G. Greenway, and Bria M. Allen (Jonathan). His legacy will live on through his four grandchildren, Brendalyn Allen, Viola Allen, Kaiden Greenway, and Murphy Greenway. In addition to his immediate family, Boog is survived by two brothers, Richard D. Greenway, Jr. (Sharon) and Steven J. Greenway (Paula), and a sister, Suzanne Stingerie (Rod). He leaves behind nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other cherished family members and friends who will remember him for his sense of humor, his ability to bring joy to those around him, and his famous bear hugs that made everyone feel loved.

Boog found great solace and purpose in his faith, exemplifying a steadfast love for Jesus and an unwavering commitment to his church. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Catawba Valley Baptist Church, 3390 Shepherd Rd., Maiden, North Carolina. Military rites will be offered. The family will visit with friends following the service. His family requests that attendees wear purple and gold to celebrate his love for the Minnesota Vikings.

As friends and family gather to honor Boog’s memory, they will reflect on his remarkable life, the love he shared, and the joy he brought to so many. He will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
