Buford Edison Rimmer, 98, of Statesville, passed away Monday, May 2, 2011 at Davis Regional Medical Center. Mr. Rimmer was born September 21, 1912 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Joseph M. Rimmer and Laura I. Rimmer. He was a graduate of Kestler School in Iredell County and also attended Wake Forest University. On August 7, 1937, Mr. Rimmer was married to Sallie Beaver Rimmer, who preceded him in death on April 5, 2002. Mr. Rimmer was retired as a Regional Sales Manager with Brown, Rogers, Dixon Distributors in Columbia, S.C. While in Columbia, he was a very active member of Shannon Baptist Church. In Statesville, Mr. Rimmer was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School Teacher until his 98 birthday. He was the Director of Outreach for nine years at First Baptist and had served as Capital Campaign Chairman. Very active in volunteer work, he did work for the IRS for Senior's and was former President of the Merchants Association. He served as local chairman for the AARP and also served as chairman of the Council on Aging in Iredell County. In addition to his wife, Mr. Rimmer was also preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice R. Fleckenstein. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Rimmer will be conducted 4:00 PM Thursday, May 5, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Porter officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at 3:30 PM prior to the service on Thursday. The family will visit with friends in the church following the memorial services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 815 Davie Avenue Statesville, NC 28677 or the Mitchell Community College Endowment Fund for the Nursing Program, 500 W.
