Catharine “Cathy" Elizabeth Davidson, 66, of Statesville, N.C., passed away October 30, 2025.
Cathy was born in Iredell County on April 5, 1959, to the late James Davidson and Gladys Kyles Davidson. During her youth, Cathy held office as Worthy Advisor for the Statesville Assembly No. 39 Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was also a member of the National Junior Beta Club at Oakwood Junior High. Cathy graduated from Statesville High School, where she was a member of the Modern Music Masters, Boosters Club, French Club, AFS, Student Council, and Fi-Y. She also played flute and was co-head bagpiper in the Grenadier Band, and she served as copy editor for the yearbook. Cathy went on to further her education at Lenoir-Rhyne College, where she was a member of Delta Zeta.
Cathy spent much of her adult career in various locations, from Washington, D.C., to Savannah, Ga. She had a background in journalism and worked for various newspapers before becoming a copy editor and assistant editor for the Record and Landmark. A community advocate, she also worked at Iredell-Statesville Schools before beginning a new career in 2012 as a N.C. Guardian ad Litem (NCGAL) in Judicial District 34 (formerly 23).
During that time Cathy was the sole GAL supervisor in Yadkin County, where she assisted with cases and supervised volunteers in each of the other three counties in the district, in addition to covering Yadkin County cases. Cathy was the face of the GAL Program in Yadkin County for more than 13 years. Within her first six months, she had recruited enough volunteers to have the Yadkin County caseload of children almost completely covered. A self-described "mother hen" for the volunteers she worked with, Cathy took excellent care of them, coaching and guiding them to advocate for the children they served.
Cathy focused on the positive, even in the toughest storm. She never met a stranger and always started her interactions with a beautiful, welcoming smile. She referred to herself as a "lark" because she was a morning person and would start the day at the crack of dawn! A lifelong learner, Cathy enjoyed recording family history and reading, and her particular joy was taking wonderful care of many beloved fur babies.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Mark Davidson (Laura); niece, Kathryn Davidson McCabe; nephew, William Davidson; and many wonderful extended family members, friends, and colleagues across the counties she served in NCGAL.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, N.C., with Pastor Dale Stanley officiating.
