Clifford “Gene” Eugene Scameheorn, 91, of Statesville, NC passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on Saturday, September 27, 2025 after complications from surviving cancer.
Born on January 19, 1934 in Indiana, he was the son of the late Clifford Weber Scameheorn and Jeanette Marie Upham Scameheorn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mickey Simpson.
Clifford honorably served his country in the United States Army as an electrician and mechanic. He was a hard worker his whole life and stayed active until recently. He worked for Clark Equipment, first in Michigan and later in North Carolina, for approximately 40 years. After retiring he went on to work for Lawn Ranger Professional Landscaping for over 20 years. Gene accomplished many things in his 91 years of life. He proudly became a pilot for recreational purposes. He was a realtor. He was a long-time and faithful member of Hams Grove Baptist Church. He loved to play golf in his free time. He was a problem solver and could figure out anything. He was mechanically minded and could fix anything. He was lovingly nicknamed “Gene the Genius.” Most of all, he dearly loved his family and was a loving and devoted husband.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 33 years, Mary Alice Scameheorn; daughter, Beverly (Tommy Coggins) Scameheorn; sons, Richard Allen (Becky) Scameheorn, Todd Eugene (Jackie Martin) Scameheorn, Randall Martin (Pam), and David Martin; brothers, Wayne Scameheorn, Eddie (Karen) Scameheorn, Lee (Denise) Scameheorn, and Rick (Jane) Scameheorn; sister, Sally Hinkle; grandchildren, Jeff (Rachel) Scameheorn, Lindsey Summers, Megan (fiance, Cody Prentice) Scameheorn, Evelyn Lowe, Katelin (Jacob) Buckner, Phillip Martin, Danielle (Trent) Almond, and Andy (Ally) Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Taegan, Ethan, Emily, Kai, and Callan, and a beloved pet Yorkie, Harley.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Hams Grove Baptist Church in Statesville. The funeral service will follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Chapman officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery with full military honors presented by the American Legion Post 113 of Harmony and the United States Army.
