Cynthia Ann Carson, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 10, 2026, in Morrisville, NC. She was 79 years old. Born on August 13, 1946, in Iredell County, NC, Cynthia lived a life rich in service, family, and faith.
Cynthia was the proud owner of Mr. Quick Convenience Store, which became a cherished neighborhood meeting place. Known for her exceptional culinary skills, she delighted many with her famous fried chicken and cubed steak. Her passion for cooking and dedication to nurturing others also found her in the cafeteria of West Iredell High School, where she was much loved by students and staff alike.
Her commitment to her community was unwavering. Cynthia was deeply involved with Habitat for Humanity and served on the Board of Directors for Iredell County. With a generous spirit and an open heart, she took in people in need and lovingly cared for the elderly, exemplifying compassion and her love for others.
A devoted member, officer, and missionary of Holsey Memorial CME Church, Cynthia was active as a Stewardess of the Usher Board, assisting in serving Holy communion, baptism, helping the needy, supporting the Pastor, and offering spiritual leadership and care to the congregation. Cynthia would often participate in worship services by reading scripture or praying. She taught Bible School, touching many lives with her faith and compassion. She was an avid member of Social Concerns, equipping members to transform society according to Gospel values, and a faithful supporter of the Scholarship Committee, assisting students in furthering their education. She was also a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Cynthia is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Samuel Carson; her parents, Thomas J. and Blanche M. Barnes; her children, Torrey, Thomas Jr., Todd, and Tanya Carson; her siblings, Harold C. Barnes, Tommie Barnes McClelland, LaGrant Barnes, Delina B. Morrison, and Florence B. Davis; nephews, Lonnie Davis Jr., and Marshall Morrison, and a niece, Patricia Smith.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by her son, Tony Barnes (Kathy), her daughter, Tamara Carson; bonus son, Steven Bennett; her grandchildren, Tedrian James, Tuyana Matthews, Sierra Bryant; bonus grandchildren, Shyheim Stevenson, Remeka Stevenson, Khaziya Stevenson, and Monica Gray; and great-grandchildren, Tyrin Mann, Cameron Fitzgerald, Jordan Shuford, and Ariah Bryant.
Cynthia also leaves behind special nieces and nephews, including Debra Clark, Marilyn McClelland, Wanda Morrison, Jeannie Watts, Gaye Morrison, Tammy Ballard, Sharon Smith, Twana McClelland, Kisha Young, Shan Davis, LaGrant Barnes Jr., Patrick Barnes, Tim Morrison, Anthony McClelland, Chad McClelland Goddaughter, Vanessa Peoples, and special friends Christine Carson, Evelyn Clyburn, Larry Hickman, Marilyn Scott-Darty, Cathy Cornelius, Lillian Ijames, and Beverly Gray, as well as a host of other cherished friends and relatives through the marriage with the Carson and Waddell families.
Services to celebrate Cynthia’s life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Holsey Memorial CME Church, 222 S Mulberry Street, Statesville, North Carolina, with visitation from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Belmont Cemetery.
Cynthia Ann Carson's warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
