David Sherrill Horton

David Sherrill Horton, of Statesville, born February 26, 1949, in Rowan County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, in Statesville, North Carolina, at the age of 76.

David was the youngest of 14 children born to the late Pinkny Richard Horton and Annie Mae Sammons Horton. Growing up in a large family, he developed a strong sense of community and family values that he carried throughout his life.

He was a proud graduate of Statesville Senior High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships and memories. His connection with the community continued through his attendance and membership at Western Avenue Baptist Church, a place where he found fellowship and spiritual growth.

David dedicated many years of his professional life as a truck driver. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed the freedom and joy of dancing, particularly at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) events, where he was known for his love of shag dancing.

He is survived by his son, Josh Horton and wife Kim, his daughter, Danielle Fassett and husband Cory, and his five cherished grandchildren. David's legacy lives on through them, as well as the many friends and extended family members who had the privilege of knowing him.

Though no formal services are scheduled at this time, David's family and friends are encouraged to remember and celebrate his life in their own ways, keeping his memory alive in their hearts.

David will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit and love for life will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
