David "DJ" Johnson, Jr.

David "DJ" Johnson, Jr. 16, of Stony Point, North Carolina, was born on October 2, 2009, in Iredell County. He departed this world on January 5, 2026, at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC, following a hard-fought battle with superhero strength that exemplified his incredible spirit.

DJ was a beacon of light to those around him, radiating joy and positivity. His smile truly lit up the room, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. DJ was known not only for his infectious laughter but also for his unwavering strength and determination. Despite facing challenges, he never allowed his disability to define him; he inspired many as a superhero in his own special way. Through his actions, he taught the values of love and light, offering warmth and kindness to friends and family alike.

A junior at West Iredell High School, DJ embodied the Warrior spirit, becoming a cherished member of his school community. He enjoyed watching wrestling and the animated series King of the Hill, and his playful demeanor was often showcased through his signature eye rolls and playful “don’t touch me” look. DJ had a deep love for animals, finding joy in the companionship of his beloved cat, Luna, who would often snuggle beside him, and his dog, Lucy, with whom he delighted in playing fetch.

DJ is survived by his loving mother, Angela Dison; father and second mother, David A. Johnson and Brianna; brother, Ethan Moore; sister, Alyssa Johnson; and his maternal grandparents, Mark and Susan Gatton. He is also survived by two aunts, Makayla Gatton Marshall and her husband Fred, and Sherry Adams; three uncles, Richard Johnson and his wife Carol, Jay Johnson, and Carter Dison and his wife Charlotte, along with many friends who cherished him.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kitty Shumake and Ronald Dison, and paternal grandparents, Jackie Johnson and Mary Johnson.

The festivities celebrating "Super DJ" and his extraordinary life will be held Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Mt. Sinai Evangelical Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 306 Fairmount Rd., Statesville NC 28625.

DJ's impact on the lives he touched will remain forever etched in memories of love, laughter, and resilience. He will be profoundly missed yet fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
