Donald “Hopp” Riddle, 78, of Statesville, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House, following a period of declining health. He was born on September 28, 1947, in Iredell County, North Carolina.
Mr. Riddle served his country in the U.S. Army, a chapter of his life that reflected dedication and duty. He later worked in shipping and handling at Lowes Distribution. Through his work and daily life, he was known as a man with many interests and a deep enjoyment of the things that brought him happiness and connection with others.
Hopp loved carp fishing, especially fishing tournaments, and found great pleasure in the sport. He was also an avid collector, loved to sing, and enjoyed traveling. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Allman Riddle, with whom he shared 24 years of marriage. He also leaves behind a daughter, Michelle Hass (Tim), a grandson, Nathan Hass, stepdaughter Susan Zongki (Randy); stepson, Dennis Fox; and a sister, Edna Southers. These family members, along with all who knew and loved him, will carry forward the memory of his life, his interests, and the time they shared with him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Riddle, and his mother, Vivian Barkley Riddle.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 149 New Hope Rd, Statesville, NC 28625. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Terry Myers officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow in the church cemetery.
Donald “Hopp” Riddle will be remembered with love by his family and friends, and his memory will remain a lasting blessing to those whose lives he touched.
