Doris Aileen Snow Gryder, 99, of Statesville, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026 at Skilled Nursing in Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born on August 12, 1926 in Iredell County, North Carolina, Doris lived a full and meaningful life spanning nearly a century.
A lifelong resident of the area, Doris was deeply connected to her community and cherished the simple pleasures that brought her joy. She loved going places, particularly enjoying trips to the mountains and the beach with the people she loved. Dining out was one of her favorite pastimes, and she delighted in watching Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud with Patty, an activity that brought her an immense amount of joy. She was a devoted homemaker and dedicated her life to raising her children. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; Doris was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church and remained active in the congregation as long as her health permitted.
Doris is survived by her three devoted daughters: Barbara Millsaps and her husband Rick, Doris Sams and her husband Charlie, and Mary Wilson and her husband Johnny. Also surviving are four grandchildren: David Gryder, Crystal Allison (Bobby), Shellie Steele and Wesley Sams, six great-grandchildren: Reagan Steele, Noah Kennedy, Caroline Millsaps, Justin Millsaps, Kendall Gryder and Maddie Gryder. She also leaves behind two brothers: Tom Snow and his wife Pat, and Rudy “Butch” Snow, as well as a sister, Faye Snow. Their presence and visits were a continued source of strength for her.
Preceding Doris in death were her beloved husband, John Wesley Gryder, as well as her parents, David Green Snow and Verla Keller Snow, a son, David "Buddy" Gryder, a daughter, Janette Crider (Hoke), and grandsons Ricky Millsaps Jr. and Christopher Brown. Also preceding her in death were four sisters: Nina Snow, Claudia Beaver and husband Gaither, Sue Wooten and husband Don, Sally Murdock, and two brothers: John Snow and wife Zelda, and James "Jim" Snow and surviving wife, Tootsie. These treasured family members rest in the legacy of love and memories Doris carried with her throughout her lifetime.
A visitation to honor Doris will be held at Nicholson Funeral Home, located at 135 E Front St, Statesville, North Carolina 28677, on June 22, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. This will be followed by a funeral service at Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel starting at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Charlie Bob Stewart and Pastor James Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to Tandra Millsaps, who Doris loved as her own, for her tireless love and devotion to meeting any need she may have had. Also to Jean Redmond, Patty Rowe, Joan Johnson, Christy Haskell, Lindsay Smith, Kamie Neel and all of her many friends she made at Iredell Memorial Skilled Nursing who lovingly nicknamed her and treated her as their own "Granny." The love and care shown will never be forgotten and is deeply appreciated.
Doris Aileen Gryder’s enduring warmth, faith, and zest for life leave an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered with great affection and respect by her family, friends, and community.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Gryder family.
