Dorothy Law Morgan, 88, of 821 Woodland Road, Statesville, died on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC. She was born in Maryville, Tennessee on June 9, 1922, to the late Jackson Oliver Law and Maggie Wells Law. Dorothy graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1945. She was honored as Miss University of Tennessee 1945 and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. On August 11, 1945, she married William Paul Morgan, Sr. who died on May 2, 2010. Dorothy was a teacher in the Statesville City School system for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, served on the kitchen committee and was involved in the Circle. She was also active in the Toil and Tan Garden Club, Rotary Inner Wheel and served as a volunteer with the Iredell Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program. Dorothy is survived by son, William P. Morgan, Jr. and wife Tina of Statesville; granddaughter Margaret Wells Morgan of Statesville; brother Jackson Law of Huntington Beach, California; sister-in-law Thelma Morgan Mitchell of Waynesboro, Virginia and 23 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her sisters, Dr. Juanita Bassell and Margaret L. Burns; brothers-in-law Burr Bassell and Robert Burns. The family will receive on Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the home of William and Tina Morgan, 422 West End Avenue, Statesville. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Statesville on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 3:00 pm. The Reverends Grant Sutphin and Grant Sharp will officiate. A private family burial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff of Maple Leaf Nursing Home and the Gordon Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House/Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County. Online condolences may be sent to www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
