Edith Irene Holmes Holland, a beloved member of the Iredell County community, has passed away at the age of 89. Born on December 16, 1934, she was the daughter of Nathaniel Greenberry Holmes and Sue Fraley Holmes.

Edith lived a fulfilling life marked by her dedication to her career and her unwavering love for her family. She was a woman of great determination and worked tirelessly as an Industrial Engineer technician for JP Stevens for an impressive span of 35 years. Her commitment to her profession was admired by colleagues and served as an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of working alongside her.

Outside of her professional life, Edith found joy in pursuing various hobbies and interests. She particularly delighted in crocheting, needlepoint, and sewing, honing these skills with grace and craftsmanship. These creative outlets offered her a sense of tranquility and allowed her to channel her artistic spirit. However, it was spending time with her beloved family that truly brought Edith the greatest happiness. The bonds she shared with her loved ones were strong and enduring, filled with laughter and cherished memories.

A woman of faith, Edith found solace and strength through her involvement in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Olin. Within this close-knit community, she actively participated in various church activities. Her dedication to her church family was evident in every gesture and interaction, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.  Edith lived her life by the Golden Rule - "treat other people the way you want to be treated." 

On February 6th, 2024, Edith peacefully passed away at Gordon Hospice House. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Through their grief, they find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.  In addition to Edith's parents, Nathaniel and Sue Holmes, she was preceded in death by her son Clay Franklin Holland, Jr., as well as her siblings Frances H. Feimster, Lola H. Adams, Robinette H. Feimster, Dee H. York Vanstory, and Clarence F. Holmes.  She was also preceded in death by her Uncle Clarence Carlyle Holmes, Aunt Bertha Frances Holmes, and Aunt Nova Elena Holmes of whom helped raise her.

Edith leaves behind a dear daughter, Suzanne Holland Brown, and her loving husband Donald. Together with their granddaughters, Lisa Nash-Ives and her husband John, as well as Jessica Nash, they will carry on her legacy of love and strength. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her, each holding a special place in her heart.

A Graveside Service to honor Edith Irene Holmes Holland's life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Olin, North Carolina.  Edith's warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to family and community will forever be remembered. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that she has made an indelible impact on the hearts of all who had the privilege of sharing in her life.
