Elsie Summers Johnson, 88, of Statesville, passed away at her residence on August 21, 2026, following a period of declining health. She was 88.
Born January 11, 1938, in Iredell County, North Carolina, Elsie was the daughter of George Summers and Alice Beckham Summers. She attended Central School and went on to work for many years as a supervisor in textile manufacturing, a role that reflected her steady nature and strong work ethic.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. She found joy in the everyday blessings that made a house a home and a life well lived. She loved shopping, quilting, flower and vegetable gardening, canning, and keeping her driveway swept and neat. These simple but meaningful pleasures reflected her care for her surroundings and the pride she took in the life she built. Above all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the lights of her life, and she treasured the time spent with them.
Elsie will be remembered with love by her two sons, Douglas “Mike” Johnson and Mark Johnson, her three grandchildren, Stephanie Blankschen, Tyler Johnson, Kelsey J. Taylor (Canaan), three great-grandchildren, Jakob Blankschen, Lucas Blankschen and Noah Blankschen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Johnson; her father, George Summers; her mother, Alice Beckham Summers, and three sisters, Beatrice Johnson, Sue Little and Frankie Eller.
A funeral service will be held on August 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, 349 Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, North Carolina 28625, with The Rev. Dr. Scott Eanes, Pastor Paul Hill and Pastor Darren Johnson officiating. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
