Floyd Levan

Mr. Floyd Watson Levan, 81, of Statesville, passed away, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Hospital. Mr. Levan was born March 11, 1930 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Henry Watson Levan and Lucille Shoemaker Levan. He attended Iredell County Schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On December 24, 1954 he was married to Betty Massey Levan, who survives of the home. He was a member of New Sterling A.R.P. Church and was retired from Superior Paving Company. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Floyd is survived by two daughters, Janet L. Hellard (Rodney) of Siler City, Vickie L. Johnson (James) of Statesville, four grandchildren, Stacey McHargue (Danny, Jr.), Justin Hellard, Bradley Hellard, Kelli Johnson and three sisters, Ruby Hartline, Carolyn Lamberth and Mary Helen Teague. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at New Sterling A.R.P. Church Cemetery with Rev. Rodney Hellard and Rev. Earl Linderman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Levan will lie in state at Nicholson Funeral Home on Thursday and Friday morning. The family will receive friends Friday after the graveside service in the church fellowship hall. Active pallbearers will be Danny McHargue Jr., Justin Hellard, Brad Hellard, Steve Stewart, Bob Shoemaker and Bud Nash. Honorary pallbearer will be James Johnson. Memorials may be made to New Sterling A.R.P. Church, 580 New Sterling Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
