James Horton Calloway of Salisbury , NC died Saturday March 29, 2026.

James was born October 29, 1931 in Albemarle, NC he was the son of the late Nelson Bryant Calloway and Eva Holt Calloway. James was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church, Statesville where he served several terms as President of UMM and was several times Chairman of Trustees. After moving to Salisbury , he joined First United Methodist Church. He was educated at New London Public Schools and received a degree in Associate in Applied Sciences from Rowan Technical Institute in Salisbury, NC and attended many classes at Mitchell Community College in Statesville, NC. He was employed at Wiscasset Mills Co. in Albemarle in the electric department and at Mitchell Community College in Statesville as Superintendent of Maintenance.

James served in the U.S. Army on active duty for 38 months. He was in the NC National Guard for 17 years and in the US Air Guard for 19 years. He was a member of the Oasis Shrine Club in Statesville.

James is preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda Russell Calloway, brothers, Clyde ( Bud) Calloway, Robert ( Bob) Calloway and Joe Calloway.

Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Lewis ( Red) Calloway, of Albermarle , NC and several beloved nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:30 pm Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Salisbury National Cemetery with full military honors.
