James Huie Howard was born on January 29th, 1964 to John Kent and Salida Sherrill Howard of Union Grove.

He passed away peacefully Thursday July 30th, 2026 in his home. James, better known as Jimmy to friends and family, is survived by his lovely wife, Ann Howard, who had the honor of loving him for 15 years.

In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by his two older sisters Jane Weisner and Lisa Mathis (Roy), and older brother Dan Howard (Lori). He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother-in-law (LC Weisner).

He came from a farming family and was known as the best hay raker on the hill.Jimmy was dedicated to his family and was an adored uncle and great uncle to many nephews and nieces. He was always actively involved with his family and making cherished memories.

He and Dan will forever be remembered as the basketball champions against the boys. He was an avid outdoors man. You could find him hunting rabbits with family and friends, fishing and golfing during his free time. When Jimmy wasn’t outdoors, he was celebrating the wins of his favorite team The Atlanta Braves or watching The Duke in his favorite western movies. Jimmy was a graduate of North Iredell High School. After high school, Jimmy traveled across the East Coast to play softball. 

To know Jimmy was to love him. His outgoing personality made being around him a fun and memorable experience. Jimmy will be remembered for his contagious laugh, his sense of humor, and being able to bring a smile to your face.

The family will hold a private gathering to celebrate Jimmy’s life on August 15th.
