Jason Gilbert Morris, lovingly known by many as“J‑Rock,” passed away on February 16, 2026, at the age of 45, in Statesville, North Carolina. Born in Salisbury, NC (Rowan County), Jason grew up surrounded by family, love, and the game that would shape so much of his life—basketball.
Jason’s personality lit up every room he entered. Goofy, silly, and deeply loving, he had a gift for lifting spirits and making people laugh. He valued realness above everything—being true to himself and the people he cared about. A devoted Duke Blue Devils fan, Jason never missed a chance to represent his team proudly.
From the moment he could pick up a basketball, Jason had natural talent. He was known for his superb basketball skills, playing from childhood through adulthood, and later pouring his passion into coaching and mentoring others. Whether on the court, at a family cookout, or simply being the life of the party, Jason brought energy and joy everywhere he went.
A graduate of South Iredell High School, Jason went on to earn his associate’s degree and held many roles throughout his life—a father, brother, son, helper, lover, and friend. He had many close friendships that felt like family, including Jamel Walker, Demarcus “Skeeter” Powell, and Torey (Jerome) Powell, who shared countless memories, laughter, and brotherhood with him over the years.
But above all, Jason treasured his family. He especially loved his mother, siblings, and proudly adored his daughter, Jasonna Blake Morris, who was the light of his life.
Jason is survived by his mother, Sylvia Chambers Morris Allison; his brother, John Jerome Morris III; his sister, Jasmine Morris‑Miller; and his daughter, Jasonna Blake Morris. He is preceded in death by his father, John Jerome Morris II.
Funeral and celebration‑of‑life arrangements are pending. Flowers or condolence donations may be sent to his mother at:121 Stone House Dr, Statesville, NC 28625
Jason “J‑Rock” Morris will be remembered for his laughter, his love, his talent, and the many lives he touched. His legacy will live on in his family, his community, his friends, and everyone who ever shared a court, a laugh, or a moment with him.
