J.D. Miller

April 15, 1926 — January 30, 2011

Mr. Jewell Douglas( J.D.) Miller age, 84 of Statesville passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Davis Hospital. He was born in Iredell County on April 15, 1926 to the late Wilburn Henry and Frankie Douglas Miller. Mr. Miller graduated from Sharon High School and went on to serve his country in World War II. Mr. Miller was retired from J.C. Penny warehouse as a packer and was a member at Western Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Jewell Miller is survived by a daughter, Donna Campbell and Husband Rick of Statesville and a son, Mark Miller and Wife Dedra of Shady Spring, West Virginia. Also surviving is one grandson, Justin D. Ricciardi of Statesville, three granddaughters, Gabrielle N. Ricciardi of Statesville and Delaney and Pressly Miller of Shady Spring, West Virginia. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren Justin and Jordan Campbell. Mr. Miller is also survived by one sister, SueDell Thompson and Husband Jim of Hickory, two brothers, Steve Miller and John Miller and wife Grady of Statesville. Mr. Jewell Miller was preceded in death by his wife, Novella Billings Miller, a brother William H. Miller, Jr. and a sister Beatrice Stansbury. Jewell Miller was a very talented artist using many different mediums including Water color, Sketching and Sculpturing. He had a great since of humor especially when drawing his political cartoons. He was a classic storyteller and had a great love for his grandchildren. He was a very special person and a very loving Dad. Funeral services for Mr. Jewell Miller will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Western Avenue Baptist Church at 2:00pm. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm at the church. Dr. James D. Cartin will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.nicholsonfunerals.com/obituaries.
