Jerry Parks Gatton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, in his hometown of Statesville, North Carolina, at the age of 85. Born on February 18, 1941, in Statesville, Jerry spent his entire life in the community he loved.

Jerry was a retired carpet installer, known for his dedication and hard work. In his youth, he enjoyed spending time fishing, a pastime that brought him great joy and tranquility. He was also an avid fan of the Braves, rarely missing a game and always cheering them on with enthusiasm.

Jerry was a respected member of several fraternal organizations, including the Snow Creek Masonic Lodge, the Snow Creek Order of the Eastern Star, and the Shriners. These affiliations were a testament to his commitment to community service and camaraderie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Parks Gatton and Easter Nell Ford Gatton; brothers Harold Gatton, Gilbert Gatton, Buster Gatton, and Dwight Gatton; and sisters Wanda Tolbert and Annie Bennett.

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Faye Poteat Gatton, who was the love of his life. Together, they built a family filled with love and cherished memories. He leaves behind his son Charles Stephen "Chuck" Gatton, son Doug Gatton and his wife Jeanna, and daughter Kimberly Harrison and her husband Eric. Jerry's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jonathon Gatton, Hannah Harrison (Trent), Ryan Harrison (Claire), Jake Gatton, and Charlie Gatton, as well as his great-grandson, Braxton Dean Nicholson. He is also survived by his sisters, Gaynell Fritz and Martha “Beanie” Weatherman and her husband David, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Jerry loved his family dearly, and his devotion to them was evident in every aspect of his life. Above all, he cherished his wife, Faye, and the beautiful life they shared together.

Services to honor Jerry's life will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Beulah Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by the Masonic funeral service at 2:00 PM. Pastor Brian Burgess will officiate. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.

Jerry Parks Gatton will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gordon Hospice House.
