Joan Powell Frickhoeffer, of Statesville, a beloved teacher and a cherished member of her community, passed away on July 25, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House following a brief illness. Born on January 29, 1942, in Watauga County, North Carolina, Joan lived a life enriched by her passion for education and her vibrant personality.

Having dedicated many years to teaching, Joan was a graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, NC, where she laid the foundation for her illustrious career in education. She further advanced her academic pursuits by earning her Master's Degree at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Her commitment to teaching left a lasting impact on her students, many of whom fondly remember her as an inspiring and devoted educator.

Joan was known for her sociable nature and her love for life. An avid reader, she found joy and solace in books, exploring various genres that broadened her understanding of the world. Additionally, she nurtured her passion for flower gardening, transforming her surroundings into vibrant displays of nature's beauty. Joan also enjoyed engaging in games and puzzles, often playing bridge with a close-knit group of friends, who admired her competitive spirit and clever strategies.

A woman of faith, she embraced her Presbyterian beliefs, which served as a guiding force throughout her life. Her deep connections with family and friends were evident in the warmth and kindness she radiated, making everyone feel welcome and valued.

Joan is survived by her two sons, John Frickhoeffer, of the home, and Joel Frickhoeffer (Sonya) of Apex, NC. She also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, William Frickhoeffer and Chloe Frickhoeffer, who brought her immense joy and pride.

Joan was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Finley Powell; her mother, Louise Storie Powell; her husband, William Harry Frickhoeffer; as well as her brother, Joseph F. Powell III, and her sister, Suzanne Riley. Their memories remain with her family, shaping their own lives and legacies.

Joan Powell Frickhoeffer will be remembered for her boundless enthusiasm for life, her dedication to education, and her unwavering love for family. She touched many lives and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those she inspired and loved.

A celebration of life will be held at Forest Park Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Scott Jeffries officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the service.
