Joan Woody Hall, 87, passed away on May 23, 2026. She was a strong, independent woman whose life was marked by resilience, determination, and a deep love for her family and friends.
Born on September 16, 1938, in Statesville, North Carolina, Joan’s life took her to many places, including time spent in Isfahan, Iran. She lived throughout the Carolinas and spent her final years at Graceful Care Senior Living in Clarkesville, Georgia. She appreciated both adventure and the simple joys of life, especially a good book, time with loved ones, and the chance to see somewhere new.
Joan dedicated more than 40 years as a Registered Nurse, working in multiple areas of care before retiring from UNC Home Health in Chapel Hill. She was a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, North Carolina. She brought skill, grit, and compassion to her work, helping countless people and leaving a lasting impact on those she cared for.
Joan also knew how to enjoy life. She loved to cook, entertain, shop, and bring people together. Her broccoli casserole became a favorite among family and friends, and her home was often a place where memories were made. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with friends, who loved her for her honesty, humor, and loyal heart.
Joan is survived by her children, Karen Hartsell (Danny) of Florence, South Carolina, Stacy Hall (Ivy) of Clarkesville, Georgia, and David Hall (Cindy) of Gilbert, Arizona; and her grandchildren, Brinson Hall of Washington, DC, Lincoln Hall of Statesboro, Georgia, Enocka Franky of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ange Badji (Brianna) of Leesburg, Florida and their son, Ezekiel, all who carry forward her strength, humor, and determination.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Miriam Mills; her father, Frank Woody; her stepfather, Charles Mills, Jr.; her brother, Joe Woody; and her beloved aunt, Claudia Schulenberger. It brings comfort to know she is reunited with those she loved. Joan accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and the family rests confidently knowing that she will spend eternity in heaven.
Joan will be remembered for her strong will, quick wit, generosity, and living by example. She leaves behind family and friends who will miss her deeply and remember her in the stories they share and the time they spend together. Those who knew her well know she would rather be remembered with laughter, enjoyable conversation, and maybe even a hand or two of cards.
It was Joan’s wish to donate her body to medical science, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others. Following this process, in Spring of 2027, her ashes will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, North Carolina. A celebration of life will be held at Nicholson Funeral Home also in Statesville followed by the graveside service. Additional details will be provided by Nicholson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joan’s memory to Graceful Care Senior Living at 217 Landers Street, Clarkesville, Georgia 30523, or to a charity of your choice.
