Loretta Sparks Vaden

Loretta Spears Vaden, born on September 8, 1952, in Iredell County, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Statesville, NC, at the age of 73.

Loretta dedicated her life to being a homemaker, where she found joy in nurturing her family and creating a warm and loving home. Her interests were as varied as they were passionate; she delighted in reading cookbooks and exploring new recipes, always eager to share her culinary creations with loved ones. A true maker at heart, Loretta cherished her time outdoors, especially at the beach, where the sun and sea brought her peace and happiness.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she loved the Lord deeply. Above all, Loretta treasured her family, who were the center of her world.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Earnest Robert and Ruby Mae Bare Spears, and her brother, Eddie Spears.

Loretta is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Frankie Ruffin Vaden, Sr., whom she married on September 9, 1970. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: her son, Frankie Ruffin Vaden, Jr. and his wife Edith; her daughters, Tina Elaine Melton and her husband Steve, and Paula LaNette McHargue. Loretta is also survived by her brother, Bobby Allen Spears, and her sister, Barbara Jean Bustle and her husband Harold.

Her memory will be cherished by her five grandchildren: Loretta Ann Vaden, Frankie Lee Vaden, Kimberly Dawn McHargue, Cody McHargue, and Dustin McHargue, as well as her five great-grandchildren: Dylan, Layla, Riley, Skylar, and Kimi.

A private family service will be held at a later date to honor Loretta's life and legacy.
