Luz Mary Castro, 81, of Mooresville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026.

She was born on November 5, 1944, in Calarcá, Quindío, Colombia, to the late Marco Fidel Castro and Judith Arias. Luz Mary was raised in Calarcá and spent most of her life in Armenia, Colombia. In 1983, she moved to the United States, where she lived in New Jersey and later in North Carolina. Throughout her life, she touched countless hearts and became well known and deeply loved by many people in the Mooresville and Statesville communities.

Luz Mary had a deep Catholic faith and was always willing to pray for those in need. She had a great love for music and was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience. She showed deep empathy toward others and lived according to strong personal values. She loved and supported her loved ones unconditionally and was deeply devoted to her family and friends.

Serene, loving, and selfless, Luz Mary was one of the kindest and most big-hearted people that those who knew her were fortunate enough to encounter. She always put the needs of others before her own and was the pillar of her family. She always took great care of herself and was known for her grace and elegance. Luz Mary will be fondly remembered by all of us who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

She is survived by her two brothers, Marco and William Castro; her children, Isabel Cristina (Álvaro), César José, Luz Marina (Miguel Ángel), Gloria Patricia, and Luis Guillermo (Yisel); and her grandchildren, Ana María, Juan Diego, Andrés Felipe, Mateo, Michelle, and Daniel.

Romans 14:8 says:

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”

Nació el 5 de noviembre de 1944 en Calarcá, Quindío, Colombia, hija de los fallecidos Marco Fidel Castro y Judith Arias. Luz Mary creció en Calarcá y pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Armenia, Colombia. En 1983 se trasladó a los Estados Unidos, donde vivió en Nueva Jersey y posteriormente en Carolina del Norte. A lo largo de su vida, tocó innumerables corazones y llegó a ser muy conocida y querida por muchas personas en las comunidades de Mooresville y Statesville.

Luz Mary tenía una profunda fe católica y siempre estaba dispuesta a orar por quienes lo necesitaban. Sentía un gran amor por la música y fue una mujer de notable fortaleza y resiliencia. Mostraba una profunda empatía hacia los demás y vivía de acuerdo con sólidos valores personales. Amaba y apoyaba incondicionalmente a sus seres queridos y estaba profundamente dedicada a su familia y amigos.

Serena, cariñosa y desinteresada, Luz Mary fue una de las personas más nobles y de corazón más grande que quienes la conocieron tuvieron la fortuna de conocer. Siempre anteponía las necesidades de los demás a las suyas y fue el pilar de su familia. Siempre cuidó de sí misma y se destacó por su gracia y elegancia. Luz Mary será entrañablemente recordada por todos los que tuvimos el privilegio de conocerla y amarla.

Le sobreviven sus dos hermanos, Marco y William Castro; sus hijos, Isabel Cristina (Álvaro), César José, Luz Marina (Miguel Ángel), Gloria Patricia y Luis Guillermo (Yisel); y sus nietos, Ana María, Juan Diego, Andrés Felipe, Mateo, Michelle y Daniel.

Romanos 14:8 dice:
