Mary Elizabeth Pearson Haire, passed away at her home on September 20, 2026, following a lengthy illness. She was 88. Born on February 3, 1938, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, Mary lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the many people whose lives were brightened by her care and steady presence.

For 28 years, Mary and her late husband,  owned and operated  Gene's Produce, where her work reflected the same warmth, diligence, and neighborly spirit that defined her life. She was someone who gave of herself fully, whether in her work, in her home, or in her church community.

Mary was a member of Beulah Heights Wesleyan Church for more than 60 years and was an integral part of its life and ministry. Her faith was not simply something she professed, but something she lived each day. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served as a youth leader, and lifted her voice in the choir, in quartets, and in solos. Through these many acts of service, she became a familiar and beloved presence to generations of children, families, and fellow worshipers. She was a great mom and grandmother not only to her own family, but also to all the children at church, offering encouragement, guidance, and love in ways that will long be remembered.

Beyond her many commitments, Mary found joy in the simple and lasting pleasures of life. She loved camping on the river, treasured going on trips with her sisters, and enjoyed sewing. These were the threads of a life rich in love, fellowship, and quiet happiness.

She is survived by her five children, Tricia Jordan (Bill), Beth Brown (John), Ricky Haire (Tina), Tommy Haire (Tammy), and Brad Haire (Sarah), along with six grandchildren, Nick Haire (Misty), Amanda Haire, Devin Haire, Cadince Haire, Kimberly Gregory (Brandon), Samantha Slaughter (Wayne) and seven great-grandchildren, Brianna Haire, Hunter Connery, Bryson Connery, Timber Gregory, Brinley Gregory, Ashlyn Slaughter and Addison Slaughter. Also surving are one brother, Jimmy Pearson (Mary), three sisters, Shirley Treadaway (Paul), Joann Dorsett, Barbara Solenburger (Jerry), three half-brothers, Matthew Pearson, Robert Pearson, Jessie Pearson, and five half-sisters, Judy Foust, Joyce Hicks, Nancy Pearson, Susie Pearson and Donna Pearson. Together, they shared a close family bond that stood as part of Mary's greatest pride and deepest joy. The love she poured into her family will remain with them always, carried forward in memory, gratitude, and the example she gave through a life of steadfast care.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert Pearson, and Nellie Williams Person, her beloved husband, Gene, a grandson, Willie Jordan, two sisters, Helen Spilker and Bonnie Pearson, and a brother, Bruce Pearson.

Those who knew Mary will remember her for her faithful heart, her generous spirit, and the way she made room for others in both her family and her church. Her life was one of service, song, and love, and her memory will continue to be cherished by all who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of life will be scheduled later.
