Maurice Hamer was born on April 9, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Ladell and Essie Hamer. Ladell preceded him in death. Maurice is the fifth of six children. One brother, Ladell Hamer, Jr., preceded him in death. He leaves behind four sisters: Billie Jean (Fred), Bernadette, Evelyn, and Brenda Lee.
Maurice was baptized in 1969 at a church in the Englewood community of Chicago. He lived most of his life in Chicago, attended Dunbar and Calumet High Schools, and then a local trade school. He worked as a security guard with U.S. Security Associates, Inc., and for several banks and pharmacies for many years in both Chicago and Lexington, North Carolina. Maurice enjoyed music and dancing. He made many friends over the course of his life.
Maurice is survived by his daughter, Frances Pollard and her two daughters (Faith and Ayona), and his son Lenny Pollard (Veronica) and their children (Leonard, Leondre, Nigel, London, Lauren, DeShaun, Lyric and Jordan). He is also survived by his nephews Cleveland Galloway III, Hassan Ladell Lee, Sherman Booker, Ladell Hamer III, Jarrell Hamer, and David Maurice Hamer, as well as a host of great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his ex-wife Linda Pollard, who became his lifelong friend.
The Lord called Maurice home on the afternoon of May 25, 2022
Maurice Hamer was cremated on May 28, 2022.
His services were performed by Nicholson Funerals & Cremations in Thomasville, North Carolina.
