Pastor Charles Anthony Williams

Charles Anthony Williams, 65, passed away on September 29, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House, surrounded by family who loved him deeply.

Charles was born on September 28, 1961, in Iredell County, North Carolina, to the late Clyde M. Williams and Martha Lippard Williams. The youngest of four children, Charles grew up in Iredell County and attended South Iredell High School, graduating in 1980. During his younger years, Charles developed a love for theater and performing, and he had a natural talent for the stage.

In January 1984, Charles married his wife, Becky Williams. Charles and Becky went on to share 42 years of marriage, building a life together filled with more memories than could ever be captured in a few paragraphs.

Charles was a devoted father to his daughter, Meghan, and later became "Pawpaw" to his grandsons, Skylar and Jasper, who brought him tremendous pride and joy and held a very special place in his heart.

Faith played an important role in Charles's life. In 1999, after feeling it pressed upon his heart to begin a church, Charles and Becky founded Horizon Church, "A Place for New Beginnings." What began as a calling became a ministry that touched countless lives and, for so many people, truly became a place for new beginnings. Charles had a heart for those who felt like outcasts, those who had been forgotten, and those who had been hurt. He welcomed people without judgment and wanted them to feel exactly as he believed Jesus would have wanted them to feel: seen, accepted, and loved. Through Horizon, Charles helped create a place where people could find belonging, healing, and the opportunity for a new beginning.

Charles was a force to everyone who knew him. He had a big personality, strong opinions, a quick sense of humor, and a presence that was impossible to ignore. He loved riding motorcycles and had a lifelong appreciation for fast cars. He was also an exceptionally talented cook and loved bringing people together through food, whether he was preparing a special meal or simply cooking for the people he loved.

Charles leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Becky Williams; his daughter, Meghan (Asta); his grandsons, Skylar and Jasper; his brother, John (Julie); his sister, Marsha (Gary); his sister-in-law, Laura (Scott); many nieces and nephews he loved dearly; and countless other family members and friends whose lives were touched by knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde M. Williams and Martha Lippard Williams, and his oldest brother, Marc Williams.

Charles was many things to many people: a husband, father, Pawpaw, brother, pastor, and friend. Above all, he was unmistakably himself. Those fortunate enough to know him have stories that will continue to be told for years to come.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held Friday October 2, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery Statesville with Pastors Tony Smith and Jason Bost officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery. 

Charles left an unmistakable impression on the people and places that were part of his life, and his presence will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
