Peggy Damron Schoonover, 70, of Summerville, South Carolina, born on November 6, 1955, in Roanoke, Virginia, passed away on March 7, 2026, at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina, following a period of declining health. She was a beloved Pre-School teacher who dedicated 30 years to enriching the minds of young children, leaving a lasting impact on her students and their families that she loved all dearly.
Peggy's life was marked by her adventurous spirit and a passion for cultural exploration. She enjoyed traveling and embraced new experiences, often sharing her love for theme parks, particularly Disney and Universal. An avid fan of theater, hockey, Formula 1 racing, and professional wrestling, Peggy's diverse interests enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
She is survived by her husband, John Schoonover, and their son, Jonathan Schoonover. Peggy also leaves behind her two step-sons, Dane Schoonover (Evelyn) and Gareth Schoonover (Megan), as well as a step-daughter, Evangeline Schoonover (Drew). Also, two lovely grandchildren, Soraya and Lyra. She was very proud of all of her family as each were special in their own way.
In addition to her immediate family, Peggy is survived by her brother, Thomas Damron, and two sisters, Gloria Vaughn and Doris Cox. She was preceded in death by her father, Aubrey Damron, and her mother, Francis Harrison Damron.
A visitation will be held on March 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home, located at 135 E Front St, Statesville, NC 28677. A funeral service will take place the following day, March 21, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Friendship United Methodist Church, located at 907 Friendship Rd, Statesville, NC 28625.
Peggy will be remembered fondly for her warmth, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and a lifelong career of helping those most in need of a loving heart. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched during her time on earth.
