Mr. Philip Hoover age 89 of Statesville, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Rosewood Assisted Living Center. Philip was born in Iredell County on January 19, 1921 to the late James Edward and Ora Combs Hoover and was a graduate of Troutman High School. Mr. Hoover was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, where he was very active and served on numerous committees. His service to the church included membership of many years on the church council, chairman of the Property Committee, 37-year tenure as Church Bell Ringer, along with participating in many other church activities. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and owner of Hoover Building Company where he was self- employed as a general contractor. Mr. Hoover is survived by the love of his life, Edith Misenheimer Hoover of Statesville, whom he married on June 20, 1948 at Pfeifer College. He is also survived by one son, James P. Hoover, Jr. and his wife Renee, one grandson, Jack Hoover and two granddaughters, Amanda and Grace Hoover all of Statesville. Survivors additionally include one brother, Blake Hoover of Troutman and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Hoover of Statesville and three sisters, Rachel Hoover and Lillian Hoover both of Troutman and Mildred Davidson of Stony Point. Funeral services for Mr. Philip Hoover will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 2:00PM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman with Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 pm, in the church fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Philip Hoover.
