On Friday, May 3rd, 2024, Phyllis Lanier Plyler went home to be with her Lord.   Mrs. Plyler was 79 years old and was a resident of Brookdale Assisted Living where she had been for the last 2 years.

Mrs. Plyler grew up in Statesville, North Carolina.   She was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church for most of her life where she taught Sunday School classes, sang in the choir, and served in any other role that the Lord led her to.  She was a graduate of Mitchell Community College and served as an Administrative Secretary for the Salem Presbytery office for 30 years.  She was married to Jerry Edward Plyler of Statesville for 32 years and raised two sons.   She was also an active volunteer at the Statesville Pregnancy Resource Center for a number of years and had a deep love for children.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Plyler, daughter-in-law Donda Plyler, her brother Harold Lanier, and her sister Carolyn Shives.  She is survived by her sister Martha Lynch, son Scott Plyler, and son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Suzy Plyler.  She has 8 grandchildren and spouses, Matney Plyler, Nate and Chloe Plyler, Will and Kaitlyn Plyler, Drew and Abby Plyler, and Bentley Plyler.  She was blessed with two great grandchildren as well, Toby Plyler and Jensen Plyler, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Shiloh Methodist Church.  There will be a private interment for family followed by a memorial service at 1:00 open to family and friends.  (The service will be streamed at https://shilohumcweb.com/ . Then click on the “Shiloh MC Facebook Page” button.)  The family will receive friends following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Friends of PRC Statesville at https://friendsofprcstatesville.org/donate/.

Phyllis lived a life full of love for the Lord and all people.  Her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is a legacy that her family and friends will carry forward, and the effects of her smile and life will be felt for decades to come.
