Rex Brown, 87, of Statesville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. 

Rex was born on October 7, 1937 in Wilkes County, NC to the late Rufus Brown and Emma Wagoner Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Fay Roten; brother, Freeman Brown, and a best friend, James Hudler.

Rex honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He spent his career as a header operator at Southern Screw, where he dedicated 30 years before retiring. A man of many interests, Rex loved racing cars on the dirt track in his youth and spent countless hours tinkering in his garage.

He was a long-time member of Bright Light Baptist Church. He faithfully served as a deacon for 52 years and was a beloved Sunday School teacher. His deep faith, servant’s heart, and unwavering devotion to the Lord were evident in all aspects of his life. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured every moment spent with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 61 years, Glenda Palmer Brown; son, Timothy Scott Brown; daughter, Marie (Scott) Collins; grandchildren, Krystal (Ace) Barnes, Jeremy Collins, Felica Wesolowski, Brandon Wesolowski; great-grandchildren, Kevin Landrom, Camdyn Landrom, Evie Landrom, Jaiden Landrom, Phoebe Wesolowski, and Hunter Johnson; sisters, Gay Shaw, Eula May Haynes, Louise (Morris) Billings, Patricia (Audie) McDaniels; brother, Travis (Ailene) Brown and best friend, Micah Johnston.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Bright Light Baptist Church in Statesville. The funeral service will follow and begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Jayson Fox officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery with full military honors being rendered in honor of his service.
