Robert Franklin Wooten (Bobby) passed away suddenly on May 1, 2026.
Bobby was born on September 11, 1934 in Iredell county. He was the youngest of five children born to Marvin and Mary Wooten.Bobby graduated from Harmony High School where he was a talented baseball catcher and later was an award-winning body builder. After high school he worked at Southern Screw and then attended Appalachian State University and transferred to East Tennessee State University, graduating with a teaching degree.
Bobby was a lifelong educator, teaching industrial arts, drafting, and career exploration in Forsyth, Wilkes, and Iredell Counties. His favorite job was doing summer maintenance for the school system traveling from school to school "fixing" things. He retired after 30 plus years as an educator and spent his retirement enjoying woodworking, gardening, yardwork, and community service. His favorite pastime was restoring old cars and going to car shows with his best buddy Ed Troutman. Bobby taught Sunday School for over 30 years at Union Grove United Methodist Church and was a dedicated student of the Bible. He was a charter member of the Union Grove Ruritan Club and enjoyed helping his community.
Bobby married the love of his life, Agnes White, on December 19, 1959, and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years together!He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes, along with his parents, Marvin and Mary Wooten, stepfather Ace Holland, brother Jack Wooten and sisters Evelyn Webb, Gertrude Zachary, and Nancy Poore. His pride and joy were his daughters Lynne Harner (Jim), Amy Goodman (Brett), and Marigail Creasy. Bobby cherished his grandchildren, Sarah (Darin), Austin (Bethany), Mackenzie (Jack), Ian, Isaac (Rachel), Thomas, and his great-grandchilden Claire, Emma, Natalie, Jack, and the newest great grandchild arriving in August. He will be missed by his devoted furry friends, Oreo and Tom Kitty.
Bobby was known for his integrity, work ethic, and faith. He lived a long and fulfilling life, and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the community.
Family and friends will gather for a graveside service Thursday, May 7th at 3pm at Union Grove United Methodist Church. Visitation to follow until five pm in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Iredell Rescue Squad and the Union Grove Ruritan Club.
