Steve Stovall, 77, of Landis, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on April 4, 2026.
A devoted member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Steve was known by many as a loyal friend, a kind presence, and someone who deeply valued community. He was born on December 27, 1948, in Monroe, Georgia, and lived a life defined by hard work, fellowship, and appreciation for life’s everyday moments.
Steve dedicated much of his professional life to Watkins Trucking, where he worked faithfully until his retirement. He believed strongly in the importance of learning and personal growth, earning his degree from Mitchell Community College and later continuing his education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Education, like friendship, remained a cornerstone of his life.
Few things brought Steve more joy than time spent with others. Whether sharing stories or enjoying casual conversation, he found happiness in connection. He was a familiar and friendly face at the Statesville YMCA, where he felt at home among fellow members of the YMCA community.
Steve found comfort and purpose in the simple rhythms of everyday life. His routines weren’t just habits—they were the threads that tied him to the people and places he loved. One of those places was Sandy Ridge Service, where he was a regular and a welcome face. Steve “Speedy” cherished his regular evening visits to the Sandy Ridge Service Station, where he enjoyed catching up with friends while snacking on Ritz cheese crackers, sipping Aquafina water, and watching whichever sporting event was playing on the television. Whether stopping in at his usual time or sharing stories with those gathered there, Steve made each day feel a little more connected. Although he had many favorite places to eat, Steve particularly loved gathering with friends at the local Stag & Doe restaurant, where good food, warm fellowship, and lively conversation made each visit special.
An avid sports fan, Steve especially enjoyed auto racing and was a devoted supporter of Georgia football, interests that often led to spirited discussions and lasting friendships.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Marla Lee (Patrick), Mary Lynn Lane, and Dorothy Claire Martin. He was a loving uncle to Peter Lane, Graham Martin, Carlie Lane, Colin Lee, Emily Martin‑Sheets, and Tyler Martin, and a cherished great‑uncle to several great‑nieces and great‑nephews who brought him great pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Dunn Stovall and Dorothy Stratton Stovall, whose guidance and values were reflected throughout Steve’s life.
A celebration of life will be held at 2PM April 25, 2026 at Wesley Memorial Church. The family will receive friends following the service
Steve will be remembered for his generosity, gentle spirit, and ability to find joy in simple pleasures, faith, and friendship. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Stovall family.
