Susan Staley Johnson, of Statesville, a cherished member of her community and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House following a courageous battle with cancer. In a poignant alignment of life's milestones, she departed on her 77th birthday, which also marked her 56th wedding anniversary.

Born on May 16, 1949, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, Susan was a 1967 graduate of Statesville High School. She dedicated much of her life to Hunt Manufacturing, where she proudly served for 30 years before retiring. Her commitment to her career was a testament to her work ethic and steadfastness.

Susan was a woman of simple pleasures and warm affections. She had a keen eye for shopping, relishing the thrill of discovering sales and bargains. Her heart often led her to the scenic mountains of Tennessee, where she enjoyed renting cabins in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg—a retreat that filled her with joy and tranquility. Susan's love extended deeply to her companions, especially her beloved Yorkie Pebbles, and she fondly remembered Gizmo, her earlier cherished pet. She found enjoyment in Facebook games and had a fondness for country music, which accompanied many reflective moments.

Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of her surviving family, who remember her fondly for her strength, love, and devotion. She is lovingly survived by her husband of 56 years, Danny Johnson; their son, Bryan Johnson and his wife Annette, of Statesville; and her brother, Gary Dean Staley. Susan’s extended family includes four sisters-in-law—Sandy Jolly (Kevin) of Hiddenite, Janice Potts (John) of Troutman, Bonnie Christy (Dale) of Statesville, and Marie Ellis (Rick) of Troutman—as well as a brother-in-law, Tim "Timbo" Johnson (Billie) of Statesville, and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward her memory with affection.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Staley and Pantha Souther Staley, as well as her brother, Clifton "Kip" Staley.
