Wade Watt

Mr. Henry Wade Watt, 92, Statesville, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mr. Watt was born Oct. 19, 1918 in Iredell County and was the son of the late Harry Watt and Henrietta Gibson Watt. He attended Scotts High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941-1945 and was a staff sergeant in the European Threatre. On Nov. 30, 1945 he was married to the late Mildred Dagenhart Watt, who passed away on April 4, 2010. After WWII he worked for the Radiator Shop Downtown and Carolina Motor Company. He later was the service manager at Scarborough Chevrolet and Bell & Howard Chevrolet. Mr. Watt was a member of First A.R.P. Church, where he served as a Deacon, Elder and an Usher. He also was a member of the Statesville Noon Exchange Club and the Troutman American Legion. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Watt was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Watt Wilson and husband, Zeb and three brothers, Paul H. Watt, Kenneth E. "Bud" Watt, John Watt and wife, Ellen Wilson Watt. Mr. Watt is survived by one brother-in-law, James P. "Jim" Dagenhart and wife, Eleanor, two sister-in-laws, Luann H. Watt and Hilda J. Watt. A number of nieces and nephews also survive, Ann Dagenhart Cook, Carolyn W. Chambers, Sharon, W. Rhyne, Linda W. Harrington, Sandra Wilson, James Steven Dagenhart, Dr. John Barry Dagenhart, John Mike Dagenhart, Gayle Wilson, Jeffery E. Watt, Kenneth A. Watt, Harry W. Watt, Charles H. Watt, Arnold W. Watt, Thomas L. Watt, Jimmy Lee Watt and Jack E. Watt. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at First A.R.P. Church with Rev. Robert Sherer officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
