Wendell Odell Stroud, a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in Harmony, NC, on June 14, 2026. Born on August 1, 1930, in Iredell County, NC, Wendell lived a full and rewarding 95 years, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and love.
A man of unwavering work ethic, Wendell served as a foreman in the construction business for Ivy H Smith, where he was known for his skill and leadership. Beyond his professional life, Wendell was a man of deep interests and passions, enjoying hunting, woodworking, and whittling—often turning simple pieces into cherished creations. He had a unique talent for making something from nothing, a skill that brought him joy throughout his life. He was known for crafting handmade walking sticks and sharing them with family and friends.
Wendell was a devout member of New Hope Baptist Church and participated actively in the Harmony American Legion Post #113, reflecting his commitment to community and faith. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. His long-standing presence in these organizations underscored his dedication to service and fellowship.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Frankie Cain Stroud; his parents, Lester Ray and Ila Dickens Stroud; his brother and sister-in-law, Page and Mary Stroud; his sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Junior Ratledge; and sister-in-law, Peggy Galliher with her husband Dwight.
Wendell's memory will be cherished by his surviving family: his daughter, Donna Mitchell and her partner Cecil Privette; his son, Gene Stroud and his wife Stephanie; his grandchildren, Jennifer Leaird and her husband Corey, and Levi Stroud; and his great-grandchildren, Sadie Leaird and Samuel Leaird. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Ward and her husband Jim; his sister-in-law, Sue Earhardt and her husband Bill; his brothers-in-law, Ray Cain and his wife Nancy, and Larry Cain, along with numerous nieces and nephews, who all hold fond memories of their time with him.
The family would like to thank his friend and caregiver Patricia Perrow for going above and beyond in helping Wendell with loving care.
Funeral services for Wendell Odell Stroud will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 18, at New Hope Baptist Church in Hamptonville. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM, prior to the service at the church. Burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery.

Wendell's steadfast nature, love for his family, and commitment to his community will be remembered by all who knew him. His life was a testament to the values he held dear, and he leaves behind a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
