Betty Shumaker Smith

May 12, 1930 - March 12, 2022

Betty Shumaker Wallace Smith, 91, of Statesville, died Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Davie Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born in Iredell County on May 12, 1930, to the late David Clarence Shumaker and Hessie Johnson Shumaker. Betty was also preceded in death by husbands, Buford Wallace and James Smith, 2 brothers, DC Shumaker, Jr., Jimmy Shumaker, 3 sisters, Jeanette Nicholson, Patsy Combs, Mildred Cook, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Wallace. Betty attended Harmony School, was retired from Lexington Furniture Industries, and was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, camping and reading. Those left to cherish her memory include 2 sons, Mike Wallace (Pat Foster), Dale Wallace (Juanita), a sister, Sylvia Johnson, 4 grandchildren, Shannon Meinberg (Chris), Chad Wallace (Robyn), Lori Beth Wallace Johnson (Derek), Benjamin Wallace (Hollie), 5 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Meinberg, Putter Meinberg, Jacob Wallace, Zach Wallace and Tia Johnson. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 4:00 pm at Damascus Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Wallace and Evangelist David Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the church from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm prior to the service. Pallbearers will be, Chad Wallace, Benjamin Wallace, Jacob Wallace, Zach Wallace, Derek Johnson, Putter Meinberg and Chris Meinberg. Elizabeth Meinberg and Tia Johnson will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Damascus Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o 115 Brady Ln. Statesville, NC 28625 or to Trellis Hospice Mocksville/Davie County Office, 377 Hospital St., STE 103, Mocksville, NC 27028. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the Smith family.
